Aquamarine is March's birthstone. The name aquamarine comes from the Latin phrase “aqua marinus” which means water of the sea. When you examine the gemstone it’s easy to see where it gets its name as it closely resembles a beautiful blue sky or blue-green ocean water.
Aquamarine ranges in color from almost transparent to a deep and rich blue. Darker shades of blue are the rarest, making them the most valuable. Larger stones also tend to have more intense coloring than smaller stones.
