.91 Carat Loose Emerald Cut Alexandrite
Most people do not realize that alexandrite has an incredible phenomenon known as color change. Alexandrite are known as a ruby by day and an emerald by night. The color of an Alexandriate can be a lovely green in daylight or fluorescent light, changing to brownish or purplish red in the incandescent light from a lamp or candle flame.
After placing this beautiful alexandriate in a light box to take photos, I switched the light source from a yellow (hallogen) light to a bright white light. This is the only change that was made from one photo to the next. The color is absolutely incredible in both lights!
